Reportings !

Yeah! Finally some time off from coding.  I have seen quite a number of users requesting this feature and now, here's a little sneak preview of what's coming up very shortly =P

( Frontend view when a user tries to submit a report )

( Frontend view once a user submitted a report )

( Backend view for administrators to manage these reports )

The idea behind the entire reporting feature is so that 3rd party developers, be it a plugin developer, application developer could very easily use this library and not to mention it only requires a couple of lines to generate the reporting link. ; )

Do stay tune to our blogs for more updates and not to forget, do visit our twitter which is accessible by clicking the little tweety bird below or head on to http://twitter.com/JomSocial

Oh, by the way Merry Christmas in advance! =) Stay tune to our blogs and twitter as Santa JomSocial might come around with great deals.

When can I download this component?

Over the last 1 week, early build of JomSocial has already reach our customers. We have launched a pre-release sales since the 18th November with overwhelming responses. For this pre-release, the purchase link were made available, only to our existing customers and those who subscribed for our JomSocial newsletter. I did repeatedly remind everyone to sign up with our newsletter, didn't I ?

Why a pre-release and not just make it available ?. The simple truth is, we are short on staff and would be unable to handle too many customers at the same time. The automated purchase system were not 100% tested at the time and we wanted to be sure that it will run without a hitch. We were also testing a new forum-based support system to see if we will be able to provide an excellent level of support. Not having to deal with thousands of people at one time, at this moment, allow us to tweak our system for maximum efficiency.

JomSocial (Mini) product launch tour 2008

Over the last couple of weeks, copies of JomSocial has slowly reached the hands of our testers and has actually went live on several sites. Testing went very well and we have had a good feedback. We have been busy squashing bugs and polishing all the little details.

To kick-start the party, we are launching a short series of meetup where I will make a short presentation and answer your questions  on JomSocial. You will be able to learn more about the internal workings and some hidden tricks of JomSocial.

For the developers, I would also take some time to show how to create simple application and how to use the API, and various libraries and functions provided by JomSocial.

Search engine friendly url in JomSocial

Some of you have been asking about how the sef support would look like. Let me quickly answer that.

Firstly, although we do plan to support as many sef component as time permit, I can only promise support for Joomla 1.5 built-in sef system. They work fine and require almost no additional work on your end. Maintaining support for various sef component out there is not a trivial work.

Take JomSocial for a spin, NOW!

Finally, we reach the next stage of our development, public access to our development site!!

For some of you, you might already have access to this site. It isn't really a very well kept secret, but we never publish it. Keeping it secret-ish helps us to tweak certain things while slowly adding new user to test the system. As the number of user increases, we could slowly monitor the system for any performance issues and address them as we go along.

There  are still a couple of things that need to be done and we would still tweak a few things before the actual release and you might still see some major enhancement on the final release.

So, please create an account there (valid email required!), login, upload your avatar and take it for a spin. Do report any bugs found by writing to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Tell us what you think ok!

Of, I almost forgot, the magic URL is  http://dev.jomsocial.com  : )  and do add me as your friend there!

JomSocial at Google DevFest

I was away yesterday attending Singapore Google DevFest. Aside from getting a misspelled t-shirt, we manage to get a rough overview of all Google developer tools and API. It does gives us some new idea on how we can make use of some Google services within our products.

I also took the opportunity to give a short talk about JomSocial in front of  Google engineers and to around 150 over participants there. Nothing fancy, just a quick overview of some of our features.

It cause a little stir among those who knew Joomla. We get the typical questions such as, when will it be available, how different it is compared to some of our competitors.

Anyway, it was a fun day, and I am really sorry that those folks in Singapore get the first public presentation on JomSocial
