JomSocial 4.1 Released With Over 100 New Features & Improvements
After one Beta, one Release Candidate, countless hours of code-crunching and bug-fixing, many sleepless nights, way too much coffee and over 1,000 commits to the core, we at JomSocial are thrilled to present you with JomSocial 4.1!
You know what’s in it. You can see the changelog here but there are no big surprises - just big smiles.
What’s New?
JomSocial 4.1 is packed with new features!
You’ve probably read about most of those features and you might even have had a chance to play with them. They include:
- Videos in events and other user profiles.
- Featured activity streams on frontpage, profile, groups and events.
- Manual location input on the stream.
- Searching and filtering users by profile type.
- Attachments in private messages.
- Toggle online status.
- Restructured image albums to support new features, including posting images to other users’ profiles or events; image watermarks; moving photos between albums; and managing photos posted in groups and events.
- Profile cards enabled in the Theme Designer. Hover over a user’s avatar and the card will appear.
- Built-in two-factor authentication for Joomla 3.4.
- Searching the stream by keywords.
- Default filter for the frontpage stream.
- And over 100 more improvements!

All Modules And Apps Were Rebuilt From Scratch
In this release, we re-coded and re-designed all the modules and apps, optimizing them and bringing them up to date. It took a while but it was worth it! Read the list of all the extension changes in our documentation.
You Will Need To Reconfigure Modules And Apps
Because we did so much rebuilding, if you skipped the Beta and RC versions, you will have to reconfigure your modules and apps. Installer will automatically remove all obsolete extensions and install the updated versions.
Also Released: JomSocial 4.0.10
The other version we are releasing today is the final bugfix release of the JomSocial 4.0 series. JomSocial 4.0.10 includes all the fixes that have been reported so far. It even includes some fixes that we originally planned to provide only in version 4.1.
JomSocial 4.0.10 does not contain any new features implemented in JomSocial 4.1.0 and is solely a maintenance release. If you plan to upgrade to 4.1, you can skip it and go straight to that release. It has a lot of cool new features!
What's Next?
Today we drink champagne and celebrate. But tomorrow, we start all over again.
We want to release JomSocial 4.2 as soon as possible so that we can focus on the exciting features you’ll get to enjoy in JomSocial 4.3 and beyond.
