Templates Gone Wild. New Template Configurations

One of more often requests that we get is template customization. "how do I change this",  "how do I move this around", "I want to display this", "I don't want to display that".  While we have made some layout-related configuration available in the back-end, it is clearly not enough.

By and large, I have resisted the pressure to add more and more layout configurations within the JomSocial core options.  I always believe that the core JomSocial options should stay away from layout specific options.

I do however realize how important it is to have a more flexible and configurable template. In JomSocial 1.8, we open these possibilities to all template developers. You may now specify an xml configuration file within your template. All standard Joomla! parameters configuration is supported. Standard Joomla! template parameters would also be loaded automatically, allowing JomSocial template to be optimized based on their Joomla! template parameters

If this all sounds like a complete mambo jumbo to you, just take this one point home. All of this this would allow for a more flexible template system and allow us to offer more layout options for JomSocial!
