So it’s ready! JomSocial 3.0 (stable release) is out. It’s been a long journey and I’d like to thank you for being patient with us while we take JomSocial to a whole new level of quality and functionality.

And this is just the beginning.

What’s New With JomSocial 3.0?

Here are some of the changes you can expect to find in the new release:

Greater Stability

JomSocial’s new version has to be the best tested Joomla extension ever. With four different rounds of testing and bug fixing, and over 250 bugs found and squished, it’s never been more stable or easier for you and your members to use.

Responsive Design

Letting your visitors use JomSocial comfortably on their mobile devices was the most requested feature. It’s done. Take a look at these screen captures.

 

New Introduction Area…

We thought the old design was looking a bit… well, tired. The new version will let you use your own image to create a special look just for your site. Check out the screen capture below:

New Toolbar.

The toolbar was looking a bit past its prime, too. So we swapped it for a new, slick one. Take a look below (dark and light themes).

Cover Photos and Avatars For Profiles, Groups And Events.

Now you can use cover photos to give your profiles, events or groups a unique look. Check it out:

Improved Usability

All software should be clear and easy to use. So we stepped it up in this department too.  Here are some of the usability improvements we included for this release:

• Red asterisks on all mandatory front end fields.
• Different colors for “Action” and “Cancel” buttons.
• Action buttons are now always on the right; cancel buttons are now always on the left.
• Clearer error messages on the registration page.
• Tooltips - Every filed on the backend now has a tooltip that explains what it is.

New Installer And Updater

Installing and upgrading JomSocial is now a breeze. Just install the “iJoomla Installer” tool and click the “Install” button. When a new version is available, you will see an alert and an “Upgrade” button. If you like the old-fashioned way of installing JomSocial, you can simply install the package itself.

Brand New, Two-Color Template

JomSocial used to have four different templates. This created quite a few issues and was hard to maintain. The new JomSocial has just one template but it works great. There’s no fussing and no fiddling. It just does what it’s supposed to do.

It also comes in two  colors: light and dark. That’s a clean design that will look great on any Joomla template. If you have a dark template, just choose "Dark" on the default template settings of JomSocial, and it will look like the screen capture below:

FAQ

Is it safe to use JomSocial on my production site?

Yes. JomSocial is now stable so it is safe to use it on your production site. However, we always recommend you first install it on your development site just to ensure that there are no issues before you push it onto your production site. Of course, you should always back up your site first. Here’s a video tutorial about backing up.

How do I upgrade from JomSocial 2.x to JomSocial 3.0?

• If you’re upgrading JomSocial on Joomla 2.5, view this tutorial (video included). Or use the installer tool for a super easy upgrade.
• If you’re upgrading JomSocial and Joomla from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.x, view this tutorial (video included).
• If you accidentally installed JomSocial 2.8.x on Joomla 3.x, please visit this tutorial, with video, to get back on the right track.

My subscription has expired. Do I get a free upgrade?

Sorry, no. You’d have to renew your subscription to gain access to the new version. The good news, though, is that we give discounts of up to 50% on renewals. So you can buy a standard edition of JomSocial 3.0 for as little as $59.99  and the professional edition for just $74.99.

New Shopping Cart on JomSocial.com

The shopping cart on JomSocial is now iJoomla DigiStore rather than Plimus. You’ll get a shorter checkout process and a bunch of new features:

• New “My Downloads” page.
• New “My Orders” page.
• View and print invoices.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to migrate some of the data, to this new system so you may see some order amounts that are inaccurate. For example, if you bought JomSocial with a promo code, you may see the full price, of previous orders, on the My Order page even though you’ve paid a lower rate. From this point on, the amount will be accurate. This doesn't affect you in any way.
