JomSocial 2.6, performance is our top priority

The release of JomSocial 2.6 has been rescheduled to be on 26th of March 2012, Monday.

This decision has been made as we found out that certain parts of JomSocial 2.6 should be much faster than it currently is.

Balancing performance and features is always a delicate matter, most especially in an organic community deployed using JomSocial because we have to consider a multitude of possible system setups and configurations that JomSocial runs on. There are a lot of cases whereby requested features are simply way to advance to be handled by a shared or VPS environment. Apart from performance, scalability is also high in the equation.

It goes without saying that in JomSocial, no feature will be added at the cost of performance slowdown.

With over 10,000 cumulative downloads of JomSocial 2.6 Alpha, Beta and RCs, we have managed to gather a lot of comments from our users which proved to be spectacular and highly relevant for us to polish and get JomSocial 2.6 stable ready for public consumption.

Missing from that multitude of data was performance analysis of new features and enhancements across the board. While we have been extra careful in adding new performance intensive features (internal notifications and recurring events to be specific), some leaks did appear and were discovered during our routine performance exercise.

The delay from 19th to 26th March is deemed necessary in order for us to provide you with a solid and stable release of JomSocial 2.6. We are terribly sorry for this unexpected delay, but again, it is a needed hiccup.
