I just noticed the Events Nearby module. Which is exactly what I am after but with the exception that I would like it to be Members Nearby. In particular the auto detect function which is great.

Is it possible?

It is an unfortunate, it would be a very helpful module.
So what happens at the moment if I search for 'john' will it bring 'john' closest to my location or just fetch random results that match to 'john' name?

Is there a way to set up filters for the search page? I mean, if I search for john and it returns 350 people with that name have filters would be pretty handy. The advanced search is just too fiddly with 'add criteria' 'contains' 'equal' etc..

It is a shame that it got dropped before the new functionality was implemented.

If I can suggest filters for the search would also be helpful.

Any idea when the new major release will be available?

For the moment is there a way I can set the 'All members' page to show members in the same country first?
