As per post www.jomsocial.com/forum/modules-plugins-...-privacy-issue#71681 I have the latest version of JomSocial but the Advanced search always displays the user if a guest does a search no matter if that user has "Privacy Email" ticked or not ticked.

I'm sorry but I don't understand.... "Advanced search always displays the user"... yes, that's result of search query, right?

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

My understanding is that in the back end, if you set "Respect Privacy" next to "email Search" [see img15.jpg] then each registered user gets a checkbox on their profile saying "Privacy email" [see img16.jpg]

My understanding is that an Advanced search done by a guest on "email address" won't display any user that has ticked "Privacy email" and will display those that have it un-ticked.

So that is how I understand it should work, but it always displays the user after an email search no matter if that box is ticked or not.

Ok, hope it is fixed soon - privacy settings that don't work are not good!

Hi Andrew,

here the fix:
1. edit /components/com_community/templates/default/profile.preferences.php
2. at line 154, you can find this code

<label for="search_email" class="label-checkbox">
    <input type="checkbox" class="input checkbox" value="1" id="email-email-yes" name="search_email" <?php if ($my->get('_search_email') == 1) { ?>checked="checked" <?php } ?>/>
    <?php echo JText::_('COM_COMMUNITY_PRIVACY_EMAIL'); ?>
    <!--input type="hidden" name="search_email" value="0" /-->
</label>
changing it to
<label for="search_email" class="label-checkbox">
    <input type="hidden" name="search_email" value="0">
    <input type="checkbox" class="input checkbox" value="1" id="email-email-yes" name="search_email" <?php if ($my->get('_search_email') == 1) { ?>checked="checked" <?php } ?>/>
    <?php echo JText::_('COM_COMMUNITY_PRIVACY_EMAIL'); ?>
</label>

FYI: privacy email must uncheck for not searchable.

Regards,
Albert
