Hi guys, I've been away from my site for a while and it now needs updating to latest versions. Its also been a while since I accessed the admin panel so I'm a bit rusty.
My Joomla is 3.4.3 which needs to I'd like to update to 3.6.5
My JomSocial is 4.0.7 which I'd like to update to 4.3.4
My Control Panel also tells me that I have six extensions that need updating. These include my Kunena Forum and Akeeba Backup .
My plan is to take the site offline from the control panel, backup the site with Akeeba Backup, and then update the various sections.
I'm looking to know, in what order should I update the various components or does it make a difference?
I would also appreciate any tips or suggestions that might make things run smoothly for me.

HI, James.

Thank you for contacting us.
You should upgrade to latest versions: Joomla! 3.8.2 and JomSocial 4.5.
Please, follow this: www.jomsocial.com/forum/pre-sales-questi...-site-upgrade#182008

Start with Akeeba Backup, then what ever order you want ;)

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Thanks Michat for your quick response.
My control panel wants me to update to Joomla 3.6.5 and JomSocial 4.3.4
Do I need to update to these versions first before going to Joomla! 3.8.2 and JomSocial 4.5.

HI, James.

As for JomSocial no you don't need. You're using deprecated iJoomla Installer - you may remove it.
As for Joomla! do as updater suggest ;)

How do I update JomSocial after I have removed iJoomla?
It doesn't appear on the "View Updates" page.
Also, my Jomsocial backend (Components > JomSocial) has turned into a blank white page after I updated from Joomla 3.4.3 to 3.6.5
Will this come right when I update JomSocial?

p.s. Im testing these updates on another domain to be sure it all works before trying it on the live site.

HI, James.

Upgrade both Joomla! and JomSocial to latest versions 3.8.2 and 4.5.
If you upgrade only one part - like you did for Joomla! - JomSpcial will have error as it's not compatible with your Joomla! now.
Please, follow my instruction in link I provided before.

After you manage upgrade to JomSocial 4.5 you will be able to provide your license key in JomSocial configuration.
By doing this Joomla! will check new JomSocial versions for you and offer autoupdate just like for many other Joomla! extensions.

After following the above uninstall steps at www.jomsocial.com/forum/pre-sales-questi...-site-upgrade#182008 I noticed that I still have some JomSocial extensions on my site. Should these extensions be left?
edit: I tried to upload a screen shot but I cant see it on your forum, if you cant see it you will find it at www.harmonicaclub.net/Untitled4.png

You do not have permissions to access this page.

HI, James.

Yes, that should be removed as well, just remove everything that is related with JomSocial.
User data will be safe in database and on server.
After you install latest package - all needed plugins and modules will be restored.

I removed "Community Toolbar for Socialize Template" because it said Author "JomSocial Team" and now the toolbar and login area have disappeared from the header.
This is not an emergency because I'm only testing the update procedure on my .net domain
Was I wrong to uninstall "Community Toolbar for Socialize Template"?
Is there a way to get it back if that is the problem or should I start again?

HI, James.

That is fine and correct :)
Community Toolbar for Socialize Template was outdated an will not work with JomSocial 4.5 correctly. It was deprecated and replaced by JS Toolbar that is available in latest Socialize package or here:
