This Component drives me nuts. I had some issues and have not been working on my website for months. i come back and wanted to start from fresh start on a new design so i install newest version of joomla look for my latest version of jomsocial and begin. And then I find out that the component will not work anymore. i cant stand having to purchase a subscription every year or every 6 months to be able to install the component. i could understand for new features but if i am okay with the old features i should at least be able to run it. Joomla has updated but come on now to completely kill the component :(

I have subscribed twice so far to this component while developing websites and not once have i ever had it as a community. its always been for me thats an expensive piece of eyecandy that now dont work at all.
com_community_pro_4.1.6 after looking at the forums i found the first fix then that gives a new error. so i am guessing fixing that will give another error and keep going horrible way to celebrate the holidays with a broken component.

What version of JomSocial you're trying to install on what version of Joomla!
Above mentioned error indicates that you're trying to install older version of JomSocial on latest version of Joomla!
If so, this won't work as latest version of Joomla! has implemented changes that wasn't present when older version of JomSocial was available.

But patch won't help if you use JomSocial lover than version 4.x.x.

the point is its ridiculous the amounts of updates like i been running vbulletin through joomla for years. and it works. this component is so dependant on every little thing joomla offers. time to start creating it more independant and just connecting where it needs to.

How you expect that old version will check it own compatibility with new system version?
Also change made in Joomla! was in major release - not in hot fix. Also you mistake hot fixes with major releases.
Sure it's depended as it's Joomla! component - it uses what Joomla! offers. We always test our product with latest version s of Joomla! But we're able to do that AFTER it's released - just like every other Joomla! users. And we provided solution THE SAME DAY or day after release.

In your screenshot above you have a lot of copies of the same version... just file has different name (_ or ._ is added).

i am not a developer of the component so i dont know if its possible or not to check if the file patterns match the system its being installed into. so that was just a comment.
second major fix or minor fix the point is this component updates constantly. when i first purchased it many many changes have been made.
and yes it is dependant on joomla it does not have to be 100 percent dependant on joomla since all you realy need is the user information this could be built standalone i am pretty sure.

The problem with stand alone version is... that they are stand alone. The power of extension is that you may combine dozens of them in one site. Imagine that you want to have blog, shop and community on one site. Is that possible with standalone product? No. With Joomla! it's possible and many users uses it that way. They build a real complex sites.

There is no sense building an extension fo Joomla! and make it independent. It's just like trying to make some independent parts of a computer... they are part but also independent... this can't be done.

Joomla! license do allow to create and sell paid extensions... In one hand you expect high quality product and support and in other hand you want it for free. Sorry this can't be done. Someone needs to invest tome and effor, knowledge and skills to make it work. I recall times when Community Builder was for free... but after some time they went for paid version as well. I'm sorry but that's how life is.

Everything gets outdated every second. Let's take your operating system or browser. Do you complain that your old programs or plugins doesn't work for new versions? that's how it is - things get change. You may use them or not. JomSocial today is not the same JomSocial as year ago.

and a 100 dollar component for 6 months installed into and ran on a free product . i understand its a business and all but its a pricey one for a product that isnt even good for the year you purchased the license.

this isn't a blog or a small addon and takes time to make it unique for your own community and by the time you do that the thing is outdated. and needs to be patched or replaced. i have had two licenses and i was the only one to ever use the product you think i feel good about them purchases. specially when the product breaks. i bought vbulletin for 50 dollars less and is good for life of the product. and can run on joomla or standalone.

i like jomsocial but its seems like the easy social is the better choice. if i have to update i get 4 products for the price of jomsocial. and doesnt have support that basically tells you sorry your shit out of luck downgrade and run insecure joomla so you can still run are product . the price points for these dependant products are insane to run on free software. i can understand a one time fee then a minor fee after that but this is a greedy company even took away the trials. before you buy. crazy how companys greed milks its custumers but then there's tons of users that don't even pay anymore and just buy the license once and then grab bootleg copies. to get the latest versions.

And you said tons of work. yes there is tons of work added into the new versions. but i paid for a working version that lasts or can be installed on the product. when i buy a computer it gets outdated sure but not the same year. i can use my pc for many years it may not play the latest games or have the speed it once did but it still can run and work. this is different the jomsocial can not be installed without killing the website. i understand people who want new features upgrades and better performance should buy a new license but the product should still be able to be installed on the latest versions of the product its made for.

Jomsocial 4 series should be compatible with joomla 3....... i could understand if i was coming here wanting to run a version that was designed for joomla 2.5 or lower. new features should not be included but its pointless arguing about it there is no way in hell i am buying another license just to install a product i already bought this year. its like every 6 months this component seems to not work again to force you to get a new license.

I'm sorry, but as you said you're not a developer - you don't have full knowledge how things works in Joomla! and chow much work requires to maintain complex extension. Software gets outdated much much faster than hardware. You can't predict what changes will be applied - as I explained. You're free to do with your money what ever you want., you're not forced to use our products.

Because i am not a developer don't change the fact that this could be ran standalone and integrated into joomla by just using the membership table and using your own standalone coding to keep it upgrading and more engaging. And you're absolutely correct after your responses and the basic fuck you attitude! i will be sure never to resubscribe even if you had a sale with 90% off. Its a shitty business practice and your a terrible employee to have working for a company. Not supporting your software is just an ignorant thing to do and i will watch as better extensions such as easy social take over. unlike jomsocial stackideas is not a one trick pony have a nice day mr ignorant!
