Hi
I applied the fix and I've tried in Chrome, IE and Firefox. It has not resolved the problem. I noticed that the files are significantly different in size. The original being 133.4kB and the new being 27.6kB

You appear to have fixed the 'assign user issue' however it appears to have created a new problem in groups. The groups can no longer be seen in the front end. i.e.

If a registered user clicks on a group the page is BLANK
e.g. kirkbylonsdale.co.uk/index.php/go-juncti...lonsdale-tennis-club

They were working previously

Sorry for the repeated updates. I removed the patch you originally advised

www.jomsocial.com/forum/groups/14420-ass...nd-not-working#73436

and the front-end is working...
HOWEVER I still have the original issue with the backend

Hi Mark,

can you explain more about this? i have been looked at your website, i used my "assign to groups" fix on backend and tried to open this group kirkby lonsdale tennis club on frontend as registered user (login first) and it didn't show me a blank page as you said ..

Can you tell me step by step how to replicate your problem ? or maybe only spesific user get blank page on front end when accessing this group ? or this is only happen with some browser ?

PS : i was removed any changes on controller/groups.php (for "assign to groups" fix) from your site.. if you want to try again, you can use previous fix that i gave you on other topics..

Warm Regards,

David

OK here goes...

I should be able to assign a user to a group in the backend via Components/Jomsocial/Monitor/Members ~ Assign to group.

When I go through that process the outcome is illustrated in the attachment I originally enclosed ( a box at the top of the screen with no entries and no way of selecting anything)
Someone else had a similar problem in another thread and the Jomsocial technician recommended a patch found in this thread I mentioned above...

I tried that patch - Firstly it did not resolve the problem described above and secondly it caused another problem which manifested itself in this way. If a user were logged in to Jomsocial in the frontend and tried to navigate to a group. It would not display the group at all. I removed the patch and this problem rectified itself. i.e. A user logged in wanting to navigate to a group now works in the front end. But the original problem remains I can't assign a user to a group in the backend.

I need to assign users to groups. Because for a variety of reasons, as an administrator I am often tasked with setting up groups for users. I subsequently need to assign that user to a group so at a later stage I can appoint them as administrator of their group and step away from the management of the group.

I hope this makes it clearer and you now understand the issue...

Hi Mark,

Yes, i understand about your problem..

1. You can't assign a user to a group from backend.
2. You did a patch from link assign to group Backend Error
3. This patch wasn't working on IE, Chrome, Firefox like you said.
4. After using this patch which is your backend problem not solve, you got another problem on frontend which is user can't click on this group ( kirkby lonsdale tennis club ) on frontend (you said, it shown blank page)
5. you reverted last patch and user can open that group on frontend but your backend issue about assign user into group still not resolve..

At this point do i miss something ?

Now i will fix your problem.. i will changes file on /public_html/administrator/components/com_community/controllers/groups.php.. your original file will be renamed into "groups-ori.php"

before check about this fix, make sure you clear your browser cache..

Warm Regards,

David

Hi

Thanks... I have cleared the browser cache....

It has ALMOST fixed the problem. I can now assign a user to a group in the backend.
HOWEVER...
Having assigned a user to a group, I now want to make that user administrator of a group in the backend via Components/Jomsocial/Groups/View Groups - Change Administrator. The dropdown box for changing the user, displays the newly added user, :) but when I select that user and save. It returns tp a blank screen and does not do the requested change.
By example the group I am trying to change admin for is Plato's.
