Welcome the Technical Support section. Help us in assisting you by providing us with a concise and descriptive elaboration of your issues. Be specific and if possible, provide us with a step-by-step instruction in replicating your problem.
1. That's true, time zones names used in events doesn't are use common names but they fully represent all time zones (check in Joomla!, there are also no time zones names but cities). if you think it should be changed, please, post here:
2. I'm sorry but I don't see that issue on your dev site:

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.
- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
For # 1: OK, so how would any one in the US identify their local time zone. Where's Easter Standard Time or an associated US city to identify with. UTC+-X would be better. If you look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones
, your selection would just be a subset of this ISO Standard? The reason I'm harping on this is my guess is that it'd be confusing to 99% of your customer base.
For # 2: Please look again in Dev. I was able to replicate by placing more in the description field.
As I said, I agree with you that timezones names should be more significant. I could only tell you how I recognize them: I know what cities have the same time zone...
Please, do as I advised, post about it in our Community:
www.jomsocial.com/community
You'll be second person that complains about it (today), so this should draw PO attention ;)
We on Support are not able to change things designed by developers...
Second issue is not caused by AMOUNT of text in field... but by html code used inside. In table code is truncated to not display whole description. Truncated code damages table (as tags are not closed in properly.
So or you just ignore it - and still use HTML in event description.
Or you stop using html tags (especially divs).
