ISSUE SUMMARY:

Socialize is based on T3 Framework and has a position that I have Debug enabled. With the T3 Blank template, you can add a background image with the module bgmax in the position debug but with Socialize the image is not displayed.

STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1 - Install the bgmax Module downloaded here: lomart.fr/telecharger.html
2 - Place the module in debug position
3 - Joomla 3.4
4 - Jomsocial 4.0.3
5 - Socialize 2

RESULT
Show a background image using the module bgmax

Debug position only for joomla debug messages. I suggest you to using or create other positions
here the doc:
