Upgrading from Socialize 1.0 to 2:0: A Disaster

All:

Just a warning for those looking to upgrade to the new version of Socialize. The styling does not get applied to the new installation. I have spent hours re-configuring my site to look the way it was before the upgrade.
....and yes I did the following:
1. removed the old socialize and the module
2. increased memory
3. Less>CSS

It is not ready for prime-time and seems rushed to get out the door timed with the new Jomsocial 4.0.

Happy to share my experience in detail.

Hi Jarrod,

WOW maybe give us the opportunity and "share the details" first so we can look at the problem for you before saying those comments, that might had been a better way to do it.

Please give me the exact details of how to replicate the problems you are having, steps to replicate, screen shots etc in the following format and we can look at the issue for you.

STEPS TO REPLICATE:

2
3
4

EXPECTED RESULT

We now have hundreds of copies of the new template out there and other than some small config issues nothing major has been reported. We are happy to help you but you need to help us with some detailed information first.

yes, prob not the best way to demonstrate my issues. Apologies. It has been a frustrating process for sure.
Could you start with directions on the best method to upgrade Socialize? I have notice several threads of thoughts, but no formalized help doc in the new download files.

Let me try the process again (from scratch). I will document my steps and see where that gets us.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks

JK

Hi, Jarrod.

Follow this steps:

0. Make a safe copy of your files and database (Akeeba backup is recommended)
1. Switch to any other Joomla! template.
2. Remove Socialize template
3. Remove JomSocial toolbar for Socialize module
4. Remove T3 framework plugin
5. Make sure that templates/socialize, plugins/system/t3 and modules/mod_community_toolbar folders are deleted.
6. Install new T3 from our package.
7. Then install Socialize template
8. And finally install JomSocial toolbar for Socialize module
9. Browse to Backend -> Extensions -> Templates manager -> Socialize
10. Click on </> LESS -> CSS button and wait till compilation ends.
11. Browse to Backend -> Extensions -> Templates manager -> Socialize -> layouts and choose "default" from list.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

ok. I went through the steps and here is where we are:

My set-up and Environment

  • PHP Built On Linux serv01.siteground242.com 2.6.32.59-sg3 #9 SMP Wed Sep 26 03:29:25 CDT 2012 x86_64
  • Database Version 5.5.32-31.0-log
  • Database Collation utf8_general_ci
  • PHP Version 5.3.29
  • Web Server Apache
  • WebServer to PHP Interface cgi-fcgi
  • Joomla! Version Joomla! 2.5.28 Stable [ Ember ] 10-December-2014 15:00 GMT
  • Joomla! Platform Version Joomla Platform 11.4.0 Stable [ Brian Kernighan ] 03-Jan-2012 00:00 GMT

I was able to install the templates, plugin and module in the order you suggested (verified that the folders were gone as well)
My max memory CANNOT be set higher than 192MB and therefore my LESS compile stalls 3/4 through after (45 min)
I have killed the compile process and went into the template settings and none of my styling from 1.0 is present. It is as if it isn't picking up the database settings. I am back to where I was yesterday: Having to manually change my theme, ugh.

Let me know if you can help.

Hi, Jarrod.

It seems that your issue is similar to this one: www.jomsocial.com/forum/socialize-templa...-preview-not-working

Please, try solution from my post here: www.jomsocial.com/forum/socialize-templa...w-not-working#121300 if it will work for you.

This seems to be T3 framework issue and we (and T3 developers) looking on this.

Please, follow the thread I linked here as we'll try to solve that issue in that thread (to avoid writing in many threads about the same).

Hi, Jarrod.

none of my styling from 1.0 is present

They will be not as they are not compatible with Socialize 2. We rebuilt Socialize from scratch and implemented Bootstrap 3 while Socialize 1.2.9 used 2.3.2...

Ah, ok. I would recommend stating that to folks upgrading from 1.0. It is not mentioned in any of the materials.

Thanks for the help
