Good to know that you are aware about the upgrade and won't loose anything.
You can add a css file named"custom.css" at css folder and add css which you want to override.
so the probable path would be "template/socialize/css/custom.css"

You can overwrite styles of classes in your main Joomla template adding !important to your property like:
width: 100% !important;
Or you can also create string of class names, starting with class that wraps element you want to modify like;
.main-class .my-class {
width: 100%
}
