Isn't JS supposed to send out e-mails when someone posts in the groups/timeline?

Hi all,

I'm hoping ANYONE (including other JS users and/or administrators) can answer this question:

I believed when we bought JS that when a member posted something on the main timeline or within one of our groups, an e-mail would go out, automatically, to all members who have not opted out of the notification system. But that doesn't seem to be happening in my installation of JS.

Isn't this a feature of JS? Isn't an announcement supposed to go out via the mail queue? I thought that was the point (at least partially) behind having cron run.

Please let me know if this is supposed to happen and, if so, how I can fix the fact that my installation doesn't seem to be sending out these e-mail/push announcements.

ThX!

HI, Laurie.

Thank you for contacting us.
Yes, that is correct. Each time user post in a group other members should get notification.
And this works on your site.
I tested on "Band together ❤️" group. It has 5 members (along with you) so when posted 4 emails was sent out: prntscr.com/g4ywci

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

Michal,

Thank you for the prompt response.

I can see from the screen capture you sent that you went into the mail queue and found "sent" check marks there. So I started looking at the various states (opt-in, opt-out, etc). And it appears that most of members have opted OUT of receiving notifications... even those who have never once logged into the site (a lot of our pro members never use the site).

So I am thinking probably most members didn't actually opt out of receiving notifications. I am really thinking this MUST be in error (perhaps when I imported them in... from our other site? Maybe I made a mistake then). Is there a way to opt-in our members so I can then contact them, via e-mail, and give them the chance to legitimately opt out if they wish?

Here's another reason I think these opt-outs are in error: we've had members complain they don't receive any notifications -- a couple of these are pretty active on our site. So, again, just wondering if there is a way to opt members in to notifications for now. I will, of course, give them the option to opt-out afterward.

Thanks!

PS - Editing this to include a screen shot. Should I be choosing "yes" to allow everyone to receive system e-mails? Is that my issue? I assume system e-mails would be administrative in nature. But, maybe I'm wrong? Maybe this should be set to "yes" for everyone?

Yes, it can one of the issue..just see your members configuration on edit members Joomla page, make sure that configuration set to Yes.
The second one, it can be caused by email notification configuration.. to solve this please you reset Jomsocial configuration->Privacy->see "Default User Email & Notifications" make sure you enable all->save-> and then click "Reset existing user's notification settings."

OR maybe the the emails went to spam folder..

I hope it will help

Thank you for the prompt response.

I just want to be clear. If I go to Joomla's back end/administrator and I:

1.Choose Users ---> Manage.
2. Choose an individual member and click "Yes" under "Receive System Emails."
3. Choose save

My members will receive e-mails from me but NOT, for example, Joomla administrative e-mails that -- for example -- tell me there are Joomla updates available for my site?

And also, you're saying that in addition to choosing "Yes" for "Receive System Emails" I also need to:

1. Go to JomSocial configuration--->Privacy--->
2. See "Default User Email & Notifications" and make sure you enable all--->save---> and then click "Reset existing user's notification settings."

Do I have that correct? I need to do steps in both Joomla Users and in JomSocial?

Thanks again!

Laurie

PS -- When I click on "reset existing users' notifications" there is no real reaction... no confirmation message. Should there be one?

So, must the one last thing... when I click on "Reset notifications" (the red button in JomSocial's privacy area, should there be a confirmation message? I didn't get one no matter how many times I clicked on the button. Hoping I did it right.

Yeah, that's the thing. I click it (just did it again) and NO message comes up. None. I don't get anything saying the reset was successful, finished, complete, done... nada.

Any ideas?

Well, something must have worked because suddenly we have a lot more people posting on our discussions. It's odd I never saw the confirmation message for the notifications reset... but I assume it worked. Thank you!
