Hi,
We're planning to set up some multisites using JomSocial on each. Is there a way to collect streams of each multisite and post them also on a mastersite?
Meaning: if there was an action like, someone joined an event on Multisite 5, will it be possible to get this stream automatically shared on our mastersite kanoon.de?
Cheers,
Max
Hi, Max.
Well, JomSocial and Joomla! are both Open Source so nearly everything is possible.
The question is how complicated it will be... and if your developer will be able to do this.
So answer is yes. But you need to be aware that this may require JomSocial core hacking and you'll need a good hosting that will handle a lot of db requests.
Please, note that we won't be able support you in this customization due to our Support Policy.
Also core hacks are not recommended nor supported as they may not working with future JomSocial releases and/or cause issues that won't be not supported. Users with core files hack often refuse to upgrade their installation to keep those hacks and they are stuck with outdated and unsupported versions. Core hack will be overwritten during upgrade so you need constantly apply them again.
Hi Michal,
Thanks again for your explaining answer!
My next question is now: is there another 3rd party community wall addon that we could use, so that we simply can update JomSocial and the wall extension seperately?
Cheers,
Max
Hi, Max.
I'm not aware of such a extension... In package you may find JS Activity STream module. Maybe you could customize it to achieve what you need. But as I said cross data update will be quite hard.
Thanks Michal!
Another idea:
we'd like to set a module on our master site which displays all events of every multisite and maybe another module which displays last posts/actions in those event pages.
Do you know any easy solution to get this?
Hi, Max.
LOL, define "easy solution" here :D
This can be done "easy" by a skilled developer. You don't even need to create module from scrap or duplicate it. Just create layout override with necessary php code that will connect with other data bases. So in simple words - this is a good idea but require to have skilled developer. Here you could find one or more:
www.jomsocial.com/uservoice
but note that connecting to external database and acquiring many records may have impact on page load time.
Hi Michal,
Core hacking and doing all core hacks again and again after every update would be a difficult and hard way.
"Easier" would be a solution where there'd be a one time programming and easy updating because updates would not affect these settings.
O.k., good to know that this is possible in general. Thanks!
Will get in touch with developers soon.
Cheers,
Max
Hi, Max.
Templates need to be installed in Joomla! so if you'll use any multisite tool you'll have separated instances anyway (they will share db most likely). Thus template should installed on any instance separately.
