Hello Michal,
Thanks for your assistance. I seem to have installed JomSocial Pro. I can see the new interface and I successfully logged in. See attached screen shot.
Next I want to create a Sign-In page for users to login to, complete a 6 question profile questionnaire, before they can inter the social site. See 2nd attached file, which shows a print screen of my Log-In page, of my old social site that I want my JomSocial site to look like. I have the HTML code, the image avatar for the website tab, and the venice beach background image. Do I need my beach background image?
Thanks.
I installed JomSocial Pro.
I tried to send previous message but it didn't save it. It didn't allow me to to upload two Word docs to show you screen shots.
How do I upload Word docs?
I have the HTML code for my home page, for my old social site, that I want to use. I also have the background Venice beach image, and the Avatar image for the browser tab. Will I need the background image, if I have the HTML code?
Where do I go to activate a sign-in page. I want to see how it look, compared to my old website?
Thanks.
Hello Michal,
I successfully installed JomSocial Pro, and replied twice this past weekend but for some reason it didn't save. I also tried uploading a Word document to show you some screen shots of my old home page but the system didn't allow me. How do I attach a Word doc/screen shot?
How do I create a registration or sign-in page? I thought there would be a feature that would allow me to quickly add the feature. I looked at some YouTube videos that looked very complex, and took the person 15 minutes to create a basic login page, entering and changing many things that looked complicated. And, he was going fast. So, this will take me a long time to do, not including formatting the page.
I want my users to create an account, before they have access to the site? I have my HTML code from my old social site that I want to use as my sign-in page. Can I use it, and will I be able to use this feature to edit the text on my home page?
Thanks.
Hi, Louis.
But you already has registration page and you don't need to build anything.
Registration page is available straight from community frontpage - you have it here:
junbugg.net/jomsocial
But you don't have registration button as registration is disabled on your site (in Jommla! to be correct).
Browse to Backend -> Users -> Manage -> Options (button upper right) -> Allow user registration -> set it to YES
i.imgur.com/Lcjx9na.png
From now on a registration button will appear on frontpage login box.
What you saw on video was community member profile creation. But by default you already have some fields. You just need to fit it to your needs (just by adding, renaming or removing certain fields).
So registration form is ready you just need to enable registration in Joomla!
Sure, you may customize registration pages... but, please, don't get me wrong as I see you have issues with Joomla! basic administration - consider to hire someone to do it for you as you need php, css, html skills on a bit high level. We don't support extensive customizations (please, read our Support Policy:
www.jomsocial.com/support
) so you'll be on your own here...
EDIT
Regarding posting a screenshots. Don't use Word for that, rather use this service:
snag.gy/
Then just post urls here.
I installed JomSocial.
I logged-in to allow you to access my account. Here’s the link to my screenshot. I have the HTML code. Is there a place where I can copy-and-paste it into to create my landing page? I also have the jpeg image of my background and also the jpeg image of my avatar.

The log-on/registration landing page is the most import thing I need for my social site. Before I signed up, you guys told me I would be able to do this. I asked how difficult would it be to do this and told the person that I’m not a programmer/developer and don’t know anything about website design. The person said it would be easy!
I left the old company I was with to try you guys out. They had poor customer service; however, they have a feature on their social template that allows you to easily add a sign-in landing page to your social site, in just a few clicks. You can also upload your own HTML. I thought JomSocial would be similar!!
These are the things I need for my social site, which I asked before I signed-up and you guys confirmed that I can do.
- Customized Sign-in/registration landing page
- Basic HTML webpages to add basic text content
- An Invite feature, where people can easily type their friend’s email, which generates an email that went to their friend’s email address – to one or multiple email addresses. It will also allow me the ability to edit the email message.
Hi, Luis.
You may customize nearly all in JomSocial and in Joomla!. What you ask here is in a fact Joomla! (not JomSocial) template customization and Joomla! administration. Landing page or frontpage or start page may be created in Joomla! And it's easy... for those that know how to do it. And yes, you don't need to be a programmer... you just need to know how to administrate Joomla!.
So your issue has nothing to do with JomSocial really.
I apologize but you can't expect that building a dynamic web site is all about copying and pasting html code. It's easy... but not like that.
I confirm that:
- Customized Sign-in/registration landing page - but this apply to JOOMLA. You create that page in Joomla! not in JomSocial
- Basic HTML webpages to add basic text content - this also apply to Joomla! as any content you create, you do it in Joomla! JomSocial is not a content manager it's a community extension.
- An Invite feature - this apply to JomSocial and there is such a feature available:
www.jomsocial.com/community/friends/invite
Please, don't get me won't that I'm trying to be snarky here - you issue lies not in Joomla! or JomSocial (both of them offer great customization possibilities) but rather in lack of administration (mainly in Joomla!) skills. It's just like trying to replace spark plugs in a car... not even reading the manual. Operation is relatively easy... but you need to know at least basics.
Thanks for your response. What happened to your last post?
It’s going to take me a long time to learn how to administrate/maneuver within Joomla to make my landing page exactly how I want it. Since it's so easy for you guys to use, can you make my plash page for me, similar to the way it looks in the link below?

I understand everything that you said in your last post. I was getting Joomla and JomSocial confused. I’ve discovered that although being a developer/web designer aren’t required to make a Joomla website, it helps a lot. You guys should have told me that Joomla is an advanced CMS application, suited for developers who know HTML, who understand HTML concepts/terminology instead ordinary people like myself.
You are correct, I don’t know how to administer, which I said in the beginning, that I don’t have any experience with web design. I’ve been trying hard for the past month reading lots of documentation and looking at video’s on YouTube, but haven’t made any progress. I also looked at Joomla landing page extension templates. I’m finally starting to understand a little bit. The YouTube videos by third parties, although fragmented with different version, are easier to understand than anything on the Joomla website.
Prior to signing up I was told Joomla is easy. For me it’s difficult. The person that told me this work for Joomla and is experienced with using Joomla, is a developer, know HTML, so for you guys Joomla is easy.
It’s like there’s so many things you have to read about to learn how to do one thing (numerous information to sort and read through) and information is fragmented across different sections of websites. There are so many intricacies involved. I wasn’t expecting to spend months to make my splash page. Specifically, I don’t understand what tools/features allow me to edit certain parts of the template to make it look the way I want. For example, how do I create stacked sign-up fields, with a link to my Terms, with a line around it, like on my sample landing page above?
I went to Joomla Documentation to figure out how to add a landing page. I typed in “landing page” and over 1,200 items appeared! Also, many of the resource links are dead-end with no instructions. For example, the page below gives a link to see step-by-step instructions with screenshots, but the page doesn’t give step-by-step instructions nor give any screenshots.

Hi, Louis.
My post is still there... nothing was removed.
I'm sorry but we don't customize user sites. Please, read our Support Policy - customizations are not cover by our technical support.
You need to do that by yourself or hire a developer.
No, it's not like that. You may administer Joomla! without any html, css or php knowledge. You mix two separated thing: administration and customization. What you actually want is to customize Joomla! Customization requires administration and coding knowledge. It doesn't matter if you will use Joomla!, Wordpress, Drupal, Concrete or any other CMS - customizing will ALWAYS require coding knowledge.
Believe me - everyday on forum I meet various users. Many of them aren't developers (most of then are not) and they administer Joomla!... even try customizations. Sure you need to learn how to do things. Things that previously was hared become easy.
Generally speaking Joomla! is easy to administer - customizations it's different thing. You can't expect it will be copy and paste.
We could try to define "easy"... Remember your old mobile phone? Let's say that you had Nokia 6300 for a long time (as it was reliable phone) but bought a smartphone with Android. What was your thoughts? "Oh, it's not easy to use, there are so meany features, so many screens and applications...". But after a time you just forgot about 6300 and started to use smartphone with ease.
The same is with Joomla!... and many other things - you have to learn anyway , to master it. Administrating Joomla! is easy... but you decided to start... with hard things like customization so I'm not surprised that you're discouraged.
So my advise is: start with Joomla! administration, leave customization for now. Find a good looking template that looks a bit like you want to achieve... then practice, read, administer, master your skills.
Please, note that your issue is not related with JomSocial or even Joomla! - you're just a beginner, that's why you have hardtime with things.
1) For my splash page, is there a place on the web where I can search for small images, like the images on the website below, right after the main image, under "Our Advantages." I need 5 images.
www.templatemonster.com/demo/58172.html
2) Where is the "Invite" feature, for members to send invitations to their friends. It's a feature that a member can type one or multiple emails, then click on send. Below is the text that I want the invitee/person to receive. I want to have the ability to modify the message.
"I joined JunBugg, a social networking fitness site for Body Sculpting and Weight Loss where I'm sculpting my ultimate body using a unique body-type matching system. I want to invite you here to do the same. Just create your JunBugg profile and start networking with mentors and team members to get fit."
Hi, Louis.
1. There are many options to us images like this. You may use Awesome Fonts:
fontawesome.io/icons/
Or you may simply look for icons in Google:
lmgtfy.com/?q=free+icons
2. You'll find it browsing to Frontend -> Friends -> Invite Friends:
i.prntscr.com/cb0f92860986471cb0f365abe9aec9b3.png
www.jomsocial.com/community/friends/invite
Invitation email doesn't contain any fixed text - message is added by inviting member. But still you may customize template of this email by changing this file: /test/components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/email.friends.invite.html.php Remember to customize it by moving it to override folder, general rule for customizing layout files are here:
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Customizing_Template
...and the first link in second bullet doesn't work. It list the errors below!
The screenshot of the invite link works.
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access Denied</Message><RequestId>82C0687D4EC66929</RequestId><HostId>szKL8FSuAY2n/1ADsU3vMFd7NNEIMGdib2H3JW26OT590+r2yV/EpdPPhGHJLeZ+KT+oYXuOjF8=</HostId></Error>
Hi, Louis.
All links seems to work fine. You may alternatively type in Google: "Awesome Fonts" and "free icons".
You need to copy whole link from second paragraph - clicking it will give error (forum parse it in wrong way).
