Hi Albertus,
I have figured that out, but shouldnt it at least show the text message? And maybe showing a image to indicate that its not supported but something was written? Just like FB does?
These days emoji-icons are even integrated into the majority of mobiles and tablets... Nobody uses the keyboard anymore if your on the way and on your mobile.
So.... Not even showing the text in the message itself it a very big problem. Especially when your community depends on private messaging and atleast 1/3 of the users are on a mobile or iPad....
As for your <3 icon.... Merav integrated it into JS on request.. Just because its such a cool icon ;) however... It only shows in the streamline and not in PM...
Hi,
there is technical issue regarding this issue.
to support emoji, jomsocial need to change table type from utf8 to utf8mb4. and need to change logic on storing data.
this is complex implementation. so jomsocial developers still need time for this.
when jomsocial will support emoji? dont know yet. I hope you understand about this.
Regards
Hi Albertus,
I understand but is it normal that if a user uses Emoji-icons... And normal text.... That the whole message is not shown? Should not only the emoji then not be displayd but the message will?
Hi,
that issue has been reported months ago. our developers cannot do anything before do the things that I mentioned at my prev post.
jomsocial would strip the special symbols and characters as they can cause problems on other places.
jomsocial stil trying to handle this issue as improvement, not bug
Regards.
If personal messages are received empty because a emoji-icon has been used without previous Warning than that is a bug... Not something for an improvement.
You have made a beautifull responsive website and looking trough your request voice you are even thinking about swipe for photoalbums for mobiles. So... Going with your time is something that you do.... I really do not understand why your team do not see this as a real issue and that you do not do something about this... Something that has been reported months ago.
Emoji-icons are nowerdays totally integrated into phones and tablets. So that is part of normal use and typing these days... Your software depends on proper communication. So i really do not understand the lack of interest in this matter.
Could you atleast integrate somekind of Warning to The users? I am sorry if i sound a bit too passionate about this problem but this issue could really cause problems for my website since i keep getting bug reports over this. And since i am planning to have an paid website soon atleast The users can expect The messages arrive properly....
Please not that i am not trying to force anything here... and yes my hormonal status (24 weeks pregnant) are also not helpen atm... all i just need to have to a way where at least my members are notified that messages could show up empty if they use Emoji-icon... if that can be done by adding a textline somewhere in the message-template layout... then that would be fine to. I just need to figure out a solution for this since it is really becoming a problem....
Hi, Cynthia.
We cannot support emojis in messages because JomSocial database was schemed in 2008 long before mobile phones were popular as they are now. To support this, we need to change the way how data is stored throughout many tables and support mb4. Not to mention there will be none backwards compatibility. In other words to support emojis we'll need to rebuild a lot in JomSocial what can't be done now as we're focused on other priorities.
But, after some test, we noticed that in fact when emojis are used message string is not saved in database. Our developer is working on fix.
Dear Michal,
Thank you for your reply. I understand that those features can be a lot of work. I only wanted that my text-messages (or strings) where delivered. I obviously also see that the use of emoji-icons itself would be considered as an improvement ;)
Thank you for explaining it so clearly to me and that the dev-team now recognizes this issue. Hope that the fix will not be to hard...
