ISSUE SUMMARY:
We have enabled email notifications in Configuration Privacy but emails are not showing in Mail queue or being sent when there is a new wall post

new wall post notification only for groups, events, and profile. not at frontend.
I tried at your site, it works.

please elaborate more if I missing something

Ok, I understand.

Please can you tell me where I can find overrides to the list of notification options in Configuration > Privacy, so that I can make it clearer to my users what each item means?

/administrator/components/com_community/views/configuration/tmpl/privacy.php
