Hi,
I export the member list in the backend of jomsocial. i get a cvs with missing characters, like "é" -> turns into "é" . Can this be solved? A lot of names are incorrect.
thanks
Hi, Frank.
Please, send me csv file at michael [at] ijoomla.com.
I'll check file coding.
Hi,
I sent you the file in email.
Hi, Frank.
First of all your file contains too much data.
Please, read this documentation and check example file how it should look like.
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Users_E..._and_Import_from_CSV
Do you edit this file using e.g Excell or similar app?
When I open it as play text file I see accents.
File should be encoded in UTF-8.
Hi,
What do you mean, it contains too much data? I'm not talking about a csv file that I want to import, I want to export csv with all the data that people filled in during their registration. I think you didn't understand my question, or maybe I don't understand you correct.
I didn't do any modification to the file, I sent you the file that the jomsocial export function gave me. I'll give you a site login so you can check for yourself.
The problem is that some character that look correct in the member's profiles are now in code. For example search for "Trouveroy", you'll see "Véronique Trouveroy" instead of "Véronique".
Hi, Frank.
Please, read documentation I gave you:
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Users_E..._and_Import_from_CSV
CSV export will export all profile related data.
But will import only: First Name, Last name. Email Address
If you try to import that file you'll get:

notification.
So you need to edit the file to contain only 3 columns.
Also you didn't answered my question:
Do you edit this file using e.g Excell or similar app?
Hi Michal,
I've read the documentation.
I will repeat what I said last time: I'm NOT interested in importing users.
I am ONLY INTERESTED in EXPORTING users.
The only problem is: the EXPORTED csv contains strange characters, and I don't want that.
So I don't understand why you keep talking about importing? Did you read my question well?
this is the only thing you documentation says about exporting, and that's exactly what I've done:
"Export
Exporting users is very simple task. Navigate to Joomla Backend -> JomSocial -> Monitor -> Members then just click at the "Export to CSV" button.
New blank page will be open, but be patient. Depending on the size of your database, exporting process can take a while and CSV file will be automatically downloaded when exporting process is done."
And no, I didn't edit the file sing Excell or similar app. The file I sent you came directly from the "export cvs" functionality in the jomsocial member list.
Maybe you can generate the file from the backend yourself? So you can understand the problem better? I've included the login data.
Hi, Frank.
Ok, that's clear now. You EXPORT JS data to CSV.
What do you use to open that file?
MS Excell? Or any other program?
When CSV is opened then it's converted to tables but file has own encoding.
Excell doesn't ask about it... but for example LibreOffice does. Then encoding should be set to UTF-8.

I see that "é" are properly displayed:

That "<br />" is in a fact "<br />" a remain from text field and may be ignored.
Summary:
Diacritic signs display depends of encoding set during file open.
Hi Michal,
Yes I used excel and just opening didn't seem to support UTF-8, but I've found an import where the problem is solved!
thanks for the help!
