Back in the day I remember that there used to be a "Label" field where we could put information in a box that would display before a profile question. With the COPPA act we need to make sure that people are acknowledign they are above the Age of 13... and we need to capture a birthdate. We are having many people who are not entering birthdates into the profile field even though they are manditory or they are entering 01/01/1901 or something that's obviously fake.

Can we please have some way to add a textual prompt before a field that explains why the data is needed?

STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1 When we edit Jomsocial profile we can not put a label field or something that is readable text in between profile questions.

Also the tooltip on hover is missing... this was quite useful.

Hi Allen,

We already removed tooltip and field label, but for fixing your issue you can set the date range, choose field type "date" or "birthdate", so your new user will fill with proper value

Minors are allowed with parent's permission... and according to legal we have to capture their birthdate. I would like to include a COPPA statment before the birthdate field. As it is now I can not do this. I want to make it clear that I do not want to exclude anyone by age I want to capture their age and have a justification that states by entering your birthdate here you certify it to be correct and if you are under the age of xx you have your parents explicit permission to use this site.

Removing the tooltip is also not very good because it adds some whimsy and wonder to other textbox fields. Your video and documentation still have both of these features in it and I wish that you guys would reconsider putting them back in. I wonder how many other Jomsocial communities had them in their system and suddenly they were removed. I wonder how many don't even realize they are gone.

There's another thread that Albertus is working on about not having a welcome in the profile. I beleive he's talking about a welcome text when filling out the profile. It would be nice to have the capability to walk a user through the profile with a little rhyme and reason as to why we are asking the questions. I would serve to get them to complete their profiles nad may even get them to write better responses than if they had no prompting to it. I can see the prompting gone once the profile is filled out.

I also liked having the ability to explain the privacy setting they can set (World, Personal, Friends ony etc) that are by each question. As it is now it's not that well documented for unfamiliar users.

I hope you can see my position, it was a very bad thing for this to disappear from Jomsocial.

Our Project Manager decieded to remove it, which we had to make the template mobile approach, the tooltips need hover function, and we removed all hover for tooltip.
Our doc video already outdated, we need update it soon.

The solution you can add the custom code on edit profile /components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/profile/edit.php

Dimas the tooltips makes perfect sense, buy why remove the label field. We could have used label fields to leave a one liner instruction that would have been perfectly compatible with a mobile template.

We think this feature is useless, no-one use it so far, until you ask it right now :D

To show it back, you can modify this file /components/com_community/libraries/fields/customfields.xml, and add this xml parameter :

At one time the label had a blank we could put a line or some text into that would display to the user when filling out the profile. I added your custome label in and it's not behaving. If it became like this I can see why you felt it was useless and removed it.

What we need is a way to easily insert some prompting text between fields. At one time the earlier versions of Jomsocial allowed us to do this. Why this has been removed, I do not know.

The goal of making an elaborite profile is getting our users to participate and fill the profile out. Even Facebook has text prompting with their fields explaining exactly what information they want and how it may be used. THis is the kind of functionality I am asking for.

That label function was like that, that why we removed because it useless, no-body use it.. some paramater already removed so the current hack to show label is not working perfectly.

The only posiblity is you should modify this file /components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/profile/edit.php and add the information manually.

If you have another idea for this, I suggest you post into our user voices, hope we can improve this in the future
