seem the issue from server it self. because all AJAX respond header from server totally different, the return must be as JSON.
could you please asking your server support, there is any security tools that made AJAX respond not valid anymore if using Safari?

Is Joomla installation typical. The server is dedicated VPS.
The server is managed by myself.
I do not know you that I do with the VPS.

could you please try to running your site under Apache. it can be Nginx issue.

All 3rd extension is need to work jomsocial subscriber. Plugin email as username, Payplan, plugins and app PayPlan.

Today go it disable componentes not used in this project to test if work with safari.

The template JA Social II have one chance crashed form jomsocial register? The plugin order can don work any things?

I need to turn off all 3rd party extensions at your dev site (not live site). without that I cant find where the issue came from.
