ISSUE SUMMARY:
If I use PayPlans to have paid membership for Jomsocial, is there still a way to still make the JS frontpage completely open for guests? But whatever link they click the get the message "You need a membership to access this page"?

Yes, frontapge (JomSocial homepage -> home) should be available by default.
You don't need to do anything special.
Or your home page is any other JomSocial page then it can't by done.
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

How does it work with privacy settings? (I'm the only member so far, so it might be hard to tell for me so far)
Can I have "Public" as default and still get "You can not see this [whatever] due to privacy settings"?
Because something tells me that if I have "Members" as default, then hardly anything shows on frontpage for guests...
I have a module that I want showing on top on the sites start (home) page. But now when I have JS as my home page, this module shows on all JS pages. Is there a way to make this module to show only on the sites start page?
You assign modules to certain menu items. If you assign it to start menu item then it will be displayed there. If your start menu item is JomSocial home... then module will be displayed on all JomSocial pages as they inherit menu item id from start menu item (they don't have own menu item ID). You may install Advanced Menu Manager:
extensions.joomla.org/extension/advanced-module-manager
it will help you better control where module is displayed.
If any activity will have privacy restrictions - it will be NOT displayed for guests. There are some activities created by system and doesn't have privacy settings (they are public by default) e.g joining to group or befriend with someone.
