Adding additional tabs to profile

ISSUE SUMMARY: With our user profiles (apart from the standard 'Information' and 'About me' tabs), we would like to add additional tabs related to specific topics (for instance 'hobbies', 'membership to associations', etc.).

My question is:
1. Can this be done with or without too much programming?
2. Can the profile template be change to accommodate the tabs - and show the relevant info (for instance: a user's hobbies will show only on the 'Hobbies' tab), etc.
3. If none of the above is possible, do you have another suggestion of how we can accomplish this?

Thanks!

Hi, Ferdinand.

The easiest way will be to use module built-in positions:
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Built-in_Module_Positions

They allow to display modules in tabs similar to those with "About me" and stream content.
You'll need to develop own modules that loads certain values from db.

Other option is to develop a plugin (app) so it could be added to already existing tabs.

There is no other way. In both cases at least basic php skills are required.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

Hi Michal,

coming back to my earlier request, your suggestion works just fine. Question now is whether it would be possible to display profile fields related to the user in the actual module. For instance: if a user has hobbies, we want to create a module (in an appropriate module position) and show only the user's hobbies when a visitor accesses the profile - in a module position. Is this possible? Would I need to do a lot of customising to accomplish this?

Hi, Ferdinand.

First of all you'll need module that will be able to load data from DB and display it according to conditions. You may also use one module but use alternative layouts to load different conditions. IMHO if you don't have php skill, consider to ask professional developer for help. Or you'll have to learn php and SQL from basics... read Joomla! documentation, check stackoverflow ;)
