ISSUE SUMMARY:
10 I am using JomSocail 4.0.9 and trying to update the register.php file but not successful.
Want to modify the Registration Process
Current Registration Process
Step 1 - Username and password screen
Step 2 - Profile custom fields
Step 3 - Change Avatar
Step 4 - Display 'Your Account has been created' message and user can click on Back to home button.

Requested:
I just want to know how to by pass Step 3 the registerAvatar screen -

End Results:
Step 1 OK
Step 2 OK
Remove Step 3
Step 4 OK

I suggest you to using template override. so the changes will stay after any jomsocial upgrade. here the steps:
1. copy avatar.php from /components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/register/ to /templates/[frontend template]/html/com_community/layouts/register/

2. edit it. and put this code after line 80 (after this code <script>)

jQuery(document).ready(function() {
  jQuery('.joms-js--btn-next').click();
});
