ISSUE SUMMARY:
I don't know why, but my url for 'Friends' in the toolbar is displayed with url /profile/friends instead of /friends.
When I disable the profile menu in the toolbar, the correct URL is generated.

I cant access joomla administrator. the access detail that you provided is not valid.
your issue related with joomla menu items.

/profile/friends this URL because seem your put jomsocial profile as main menu item.
if you cant make like this: /friends you need to create jomsocial home as main menu item as set is as site homepage.

I made a jomsocial home menu item and now i see /friends menu item so that is fixed.

Now the friends -> Search and friends->Advanced search have urls like /search and /search/advanced and are not working.

Problem is solved, I made an extra menu item with search alias in another menu and now I see friends/search and friends/search/advanced.
