Welcome the Technical Support section. Help us in assisting you by providing us with a concise and descriptive elaboration of your issues. Be specific and if possible, provide us with a step-by-step instruction in replicating your problem.
Members receive notification emails on same activity 2, 3 or even 6 times
ISSUE SUMMARY:
After upgrade to 4.0.3 our members do receive duplicates of notification emails. The members even report that they have received the same notification email 6 times.
Tested it with different user types, and found out that the issue only appears with registered users. In case of admin posts the group members do receive exactly 1 notification email (as it should be). Guess this is the reason why jomsocial support can't confirm the issue. They log in and test as admins.
STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1 Members post in group
2 Group members receive 2, 3 or 6 email notifications about this single activitiy.

RESULT .... spamming of members with duplicates of notification emails
EXPECTED RESULT ... that members are sent 1 notification about 1 activity
BROWSER Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome
The answer of the JS team member in this disussion thread has been: "SMTP server can have they own configuration, you must asking it to server support about the settings. maybe they put some limiter at there."
Following this advise, I contacted our provider. However, they said it's caused by jomsocial. From their logs they can see that jomsocial software logs onto their server 2, 3 or more times, in order to send the same notification message over and over again to members.
This is really a critical issue, driving our members nuts and making them leave the community.
Help ! Please ...
cronjob runs every 2 hours. This shouldn't be too fast :)
However, your idea was very helpful. After reading your answer, I had a look into the wiki to learn more about cronjob settings. There I found also some information about possible issues with "sends on pageload".
So, I switched off "email send on page load" (in JS site configuration). And guess what? The issue seems gone. Did three test runs, and everytime I received exactly 1 email per activity. Can it be so simple?
