User Groups

JomSocial Active iSEO Expired Socialize Expired

Hi --
I have some issues trying to set up new user (profile) groups and perhaps I am not exactly getting what has been delivered in version 4.

From JomSocial administration I have set up 3 profile groups, New, Trusted, and Contributor. I want that when a person first register in JomSocial that they be given the New profile and only have to fill in the fields tat are enabled for the New Profile. The New User Group has restrictive security so that all submissions need to be approved. Then after a user has made some submission and follow the content guidelines, I will change his profile to the Trusted Group. Security for this group is looser and only a few actions will need approval. Lastly there is a Contributors Group who are completely trusted and have no approval restrictions. I also have some extra fields for contributors so I can see their areas of expertise.

The problem is that the profile that a user has is selected by the users themselves. Certainly there may be cases where this is desirable, however, it seems the requirement of group security is a primary concern for all. There is no way in the administrator to set a DEFAULT profile group nor can I find a way for the Administrator to assign a user to a profile group.

Can you set me straight on how this is supposed to work?

Many thanks,
Scott

Hi, Scott.

It works exactly as it was designed. You're referring to JomSocial Multiprofiles (not "Profile Groups").

You can create Multiprofiles but you can't set (as for now) one from those Multiprofiles as default one for all newly registered users.

The only solution that come to my mind right now is to just hide other profile types in registration.

Add this code:

.jsProfileType li:nth-child(2), .jsProfileType li:nth-child(3) {
display: none;
}

To:

ROOT/templates/socialize/css/custom.css (if you don't have custom.css file, feel free to create it).

From now on you should have only one - first - option available during registration.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Thanks Michal,

Part of my problem is that I was getting the requirements for user group and profile group a bit confused. I think there probably should be a relationship between user group and profile group, but that is an enhancement. With your suggested technique and by adding User Groups that correspond to each profile group I think I can do what I need.
