In the final stages of development but stuck on 1 issue. In our community we require the users to enter 'interests' as part of their profile. There can be millions of interests so users must also be able to add ANY NUMBER of their own, so a multiselect is not practical and by combining in one field (e.g. text box) then each interest is not unique and searchable by others (important).

So we almost want a multiselect type field but with an ajax autocomplete style input method (reduce duplication - e.g. 'ABSEILING' / 'ABSAILING') abut also allowing the user to INSERT their own should they not select anything from autocomplete. JUST LIKE A TAG CLOUD OR HOW YOU ENTER INTERESTS ON FACEBOOK :-). It needs to be searchable and the user cannot be limited the number they add (so users can search for other users that do 'abseiling'.

Anyone know the best way to do this? Obviously it's not impossible but we'd rather not mod any core files. I'm really surprised this type of input isn't already there as on most social networking sites its a standard feature (just look at adding a category to a Facebook page or choosing profile interests on facebook for example).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is a core requirement and holding up the go live!

by default you cant customize jomsocial field for that purpose, because not designed for that. please try to search any 3rd party extensions.
