I know this has to be a simple fix, but I can't for the life of me fig it out. The join button suppose to go to a registration page but it isn't. It was sending me to another login page. When I unpublished that page, it went to another page, and another. It's like its going through all these default pages on it's own.

How do I direct it to where i need it to go? Which is the normal registration page?

Hi, Arthur.

It's because it leads to menu item with ID 1229, which is: "Member Activity" in "Main menu - English" and have access restriction set to "Registered". Just change it to "Public" and it's done.

This page just take HIGHEST menu item ID of menu item linked to JomSocial home.

Let me explain what I'm doing. Then maybe you can tell me the best way to show things.

I have a login page which is linked to a menu called, "Member Login". This page contains your nice login module (with the Join Us now) along with a few modules that only appear for guests or those who aren't logged in. Everything on this page is set for "Guest".

Once the user logs in, the "Member Login" menu will go away. It turns into, "Member Area" and under Member Area the Activity Wall appears. And everything on this page is set for "Registered" because I don't want anyone seeing activity on this page without being registered.

So what is the best possible set up for this? I thought I could publish the home page twice. Once for guest and another for registered. If not without having this conflict with registration, what is the work around?

I made a few changes. So I wanted to update the thread. I believe I figured things out but now I get an error saying, "You are not authorised to view this resource."

Login Page (Login / Register in the Menu: Guest) turns into Member Area once the user is logged in.
Since the Login /Register is set for "Guest" this page goes away once you login. So I created a menu called "Member Activity" to replace Login / Register Menu and it's set for Registered. See screen shot: awesomescreenshot.com/00e3zdzl34

This works out fine. The Login page takes me to the correct registration page if needed, and goes away after the member logs in. What do i do about this error it produce?

Hi, Arthur.

Multiplicating JomSocial home menu item always cause troubles. Only one should be used. I saw that you used external link for menu item. No, this will not help.

1. You should have ONE JomSocial home menu item.
2. Create in MainMenu only duplicated (i mean direct) links to Profile, Friends, Events, Photos and Videos and set them for Registered only.
So now all sub menu items for those sections will have their menu item ID and restrictions.
3. If you want to display submenu - just like now - use menu aliases instead of direct linking.

Member Login is de facto your JomSocial hem/frontpage so it can't be set to Guest as registered users may have issues with accessing some pages. So you may place this menu item to different menu - e.g hidden one (not displayed in any module) and Member login change to menu alias and link to JomSocial home page. menu alias can be set for Guests so it will be hidden for logged in users.

I was just in the middle of editing the above message to update thread. Okay I'll try to do what you said. I think I understand. I have to remind myself how to use the hidden menu way.

I don't understand this part, "2. Create in MainMenu only duplicated (i mean direct)"

The template makers are the ones who made all these menus. So I should remove the one called Mainmenu? Because the one called MainMenu (English) is the one all my menu items are in.

Also what page should be set for HOME? Should it be my login page?

Hi, Arthur.

Ok, I realize that it didn't sound clear enough :)

Create new menu items that link directly to Profile, Friends, Events, Photos and Videos and set them for Registered users only. As those menu items already exist in JomSocial toolbar I said "duplicate".

I think you should rebuild once again your menu - delete all those are spared, clear trash bin and star over again.

Create "Main Menu" - this will be your site main menu displayed on each page.
Create "Hidden menu" - this will be your hidden menu used to assign menu items ID to certain pages (if needed).

Now, it depends what you want to display on your home page. If JomSocial frontpage image with login form and register button AND you want to have Home menu item displayed in Main menu, then Home should be linked to JomSocial home and set to Publis.

Member login should display what? JomSocial login form? But this is already displayed in home page, isn't it?

Next You'll have members area, just like now it may be separator with dropdown, set to Registered.

Then Under Members Area you should create My Profile, My photos, My places, linking direct to profile, Photos and so on. All the rest menu items that are child items should be menu aliases and link to JomSocial toolbar menu items e.g Edit profile should link to Edit profile in JomSocial toolbar.

My God, I never thought this was get to be so difficult lol. Here are two screenshots explaining exactly what I want.
awesomescreenshot.com/0253zt3na4
awesomescreenshot.com/0053zt3l17

The problem seems to be that I need to use the login screen and the news feed under different menu items and on top of that, they need to have two different access levels. One guest and one registered.

Keep in mind I don't have or want a menu called "HOME". At least not yet. For now I want it to be Member Activity.

I didn't see an easy way to duplicate menus, but I did see a way to copy menu items. So i'm assuming you saying I need to duplicate the menu items that are under Jomsocial Toolbar default menu and turn that into my main menu?
Now in duplicating this menu, it's giving everything a 2 next to it. My Profile (2) , My Photos (2), etc. Do I need to rename these? And is this considered an alias menu?

And what should be placed under the hidden menu? Sorry I'm being so difficult here. I need to get some step by step.

Hi, Arthur.

Yes, you're right - the problem is that you want to have the same page but with two different access levels. This is contradiction and will not work.

You need to have ONE JomSocial frontpage with public access.

1. Create "Hidden menu" - hidden as items from it are not displayed in any module
2. Create "Home" menu item that links to JomSocial frontpage (access Public) - this item should be set as "DEFAULT" for your site.
3. In "Main Menu" create "Login/Register" menu item that links to register page in JomSocial (access Guest)
4. In "Main Menu" create menu item "Member Area" that is placeholder/separator and will have child elements (access Registered)
5. I'm not sure what "member Activity" is...
6. In "Main menu" menu items like "Events", "Galleries" and "My Places" should be direct links to JomSocial Photos, Events and Groups pages (they are these "duplicated" menu items.... you don't have to copy them, just change their type to be direct links...) (access Registered)
7. "My Profile" under "Member Area" should be also a direct link to Profile page in JomSocial (access Registered)
8. "My Photos" and "My Places" should be menu item aliases and link to "Photos" and "Groups" in "JomSocial toolbar" menu (they wil inherit access rights from "My Palces" so you can set access to Registered only to be sure that will be not displayed in menu... if you move it someday)
9. "My Friends" should be direct link to JomSocial friends page (access rights Registered)
10. "Discussion Forum"... you can't link to discussions in JomSocial so this item is spared or you link to your 3rd party forum board.

That should to the trick ;)

Well that's disappointing. Because I was trying NOT to have a menu item called Home. According to your instructions HOME would appear to both guest and registered. Which I do not want.

Creating a separate instance of Login / Registered and making it a register page would not make sense either because only half of the description would hold true.

I guess I'm stuck doing it the traditional way then :( Thanks for the help though.

I actually figured it out. Least I think I have. Because now I'm not getting the errors. Can you take a look see and let me know if I'll wind up running into problems with this setup?

Hi, Arthur.

Home item is not visible since it is in "hidden menu" ;) It's used only to assign menu item ID to page. A well known Joomla! trick ;)

"Member Activity" should be also menu item alias and point to "Login/Register" menu item in "HIdden Menu" (as this is JomSocial home/frontpage". Using external link type is spared ;)

Those menu items (under "Member Area" in "Main Menu"):

Edit Profile
Edit Details
Privacy Settings
Preferences Settings

Should be menu item alias and link to corresponding menu items in JomSocial toolbar.

The rest is fine ;)
