Sorting Groups Alphabetically

Hi, Arthur.

Ok, it's done.

I changed "Places" to external URL menu item type and used "memberarea/my-places?sort=alphabetical". So when guest clicks on it - will be redirected to login form. When registered user clicks - list of places/groups sorted alphabetically will appear.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Did we come up with a solution for this hack? I'm still being forced to be registered in order to view in alphabetical.

Hi, Arthur.

You're forced to display "Places" as you have "My Places" in "Member Area" set to registered. I've done change in "Places" so it's now an external link to "MY Places" with alphabetical filter on.

You can't have the same page for public and registered (as Joomla! will respect only one of them, the one with higher ID).

Wait I think we have some confusion here. Places (Which is what I'll be calling all of my groups) should be accessible to anyone. So the menu item supposed to be public. The problem is, when you sort it, it takes you to be registered to see it. I dont' want that.

My Places, which I spoke nothing of...should be for registered users. Because MY Places is supposed to be the groups the user has joined.
The one that say PLACES supposed to show ALL GROUPS and be public. Understand now?

Hi, Arthur.

Ok, I understand now.

So:

0. Restore original file here /components/com_community/templates/default/groups.list.php (take it from JomSocial package).

1. Move "My places" to Hidden menu with Registered
2. Move "Places" to Hidden menu with Public.
3. Create "My Places" in "Main Menu" as external url, paste url of "My Places" and add ?sort=alphabetical at the end. Set it to registered.
4. Create "Places" in "Main Menu" as external url, paste url of "Places" and add ?sort=alphabetical at the end. Set it to registered.

I hate to open this back up, but I just noticed that even though Groups are public (per hour setup) and can see the group page listing, when you click on a group it still needs the user to register or log in.

When I try to check out the SEO for those group pages I can't seem to do so because the user must be logged in.
Here's an example:
socialdebug.com/results?url=http%3A%2F%2...ccabees-Midtown.html
