Extra Itemid variable in profile URL?

I don't understand why JomSocial wants to tack on a ?Itemid=512 to my profile URLs. See the following two examples

rw-test.racingwhere.com/component/commun...ichard.thoms/profile
rw-test.racingwhere.com/component/commun...s/profile?Itemid=512

Both show the proper profile page but only the second shows a couple of modules that I've added to be displayed on the profile page (schedule and map). In both cases you can see that the link that JomSocial gives for the use "Richard Thoms" also tacks on the ?Itemid=512. So the question is why can't I get the same behavior with and without ?Itemid=512 in the URL?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi, Richard.

EVERYTHING in Joomla! is all about itemid. pages without it are usually effect of misconfiguration. You can ASSIGN modules and privacy settings ONLY to pages that HAVE menu item ID. JomSocial assign object display or additional settings to menu item ID.

In JomSocial toolbar menu items doesn't have OWN menu item IDs but inherit it from parent element. Parent element usually displays JomSocial frontpage and MUST be outside JomSocial toolbar. It also means that modules assigned to that menu item ID will be displayed for EVERY page with that ID... in JomSocial it means that modules will be displayed across whole community.

To assign modules to only a certain pages you can use built-in module positions: documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Built-in_Module_Positions .

Or create hidden menu (menu that is not assigned to any module and it's not displayed anywhere on site) with direct links to main JomSocial sections: Profile, Friends, Events, Groups, Photos and Videos.

In your case ID 512 is a valid JomSocial frontpage element (parent for items in JomSocial toolbar. But you have small issue with menu items. Just apply this simple fix ad problem will be gone:

When you upgrading JomSocial by uninstalling it, menu items in JomSocial toolbar lost "connection" with component. Joomla! mark them as disabled and with notice: "Component 'com_community' does not exist". In order to fix it please follow this instruction:

- click on menu item in JomSocial menu in order to edit it
- when in edit mode don't change anything
- save
- menu item should be fixed
- do it for every JomSocial related menu items (if needed) in all other menus

Make sure that you fix ALL JomSocial related links that way ;) Especially check Main menu - I saw some manu items with that issue there.

This is just how Joomla! works. When you have menu item linked to component and then remove that component - menu item will be disabled like this by Joomla!. Even if you install component again it will come to the system with different id so menu items will still disabled. But for luck fix is easy, just follow steps I provided above.
