I have just installed JomSocial and I see that the vanity url for each profile has been created using the users first and last name. This causes a serious privacy issue and I need it to be made from just their username not actual name. I have set Display Name as Username and yet when I browse to any profile page I see the users full real name.

Hi, Andrew.

I checked your site and saw that JomSocial uses correctly USERNAME (login) not last and first name.
Nevertheless profile URL can be changed in Profile -> Preferences.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

No, the issue is that from now on it works ok, but for the users that were already in Joomla when I installed JomSocial, they have been set with a url that is made up of the real first and last name.

Yes I can tell each user to go and change it, but the issue is that until they do, other users loggin in and going to their profile will see their real name in the adress bar - this is a big privacy issue for me.

Hi, Andrew.

This is extremely strange... let take a closer look to user with login: boscom.
His user name is: boscom
His name in Joomla! is: Sean
But profile URL uses FULL first and second name.... but from where it's taken?
Basic information in profile are empty...

JomSocial uses usernames by default to create profile URLs.

I have edited some users when I was attempting to work out how to fix this, so he would have been one .

Anyway as an example of an account that hasn't been touched since installing JomSocial, have a look at username cjform - they have a Joomla name of "Carl O'Rourke" and the JomSocial profile url is using that and not using their username ( www.quintasensual.org/profile/215-carl-o-rourke )

Hi, Andrew.

After we investigated your issue with developer it seems that you was using real names, and then switched to usernames.
Meanwhile before the switch, user saved his vanity name.

No what happened was I had users on the Joomla site who had a name (their full name) and a username all set up (standard joomla configuration.)

I then installed JomSocial and switched it right at the start to work with usernames before any existing user even logged in to the new JomSocial site.

By default it looks like when JomSocial is first installed, it creates a profile URL for every existing joomal user as part of the installation and it does that from the Name in joomla, not the username.

So the issues are (1) How do I now change the profile url for all people that have not yet logged into the JomSocial site and (2) if the default installation behaviour is as above, should future releases consider asking the installer how to make the profile urls (i.e. from name or username)

Ok have looked further and it seems quite random what has happened! Someusers that have not logged in since I installed JomSocial have their profile name made up of full name whilst others have it made up of username
(I installed JomSocial on 30 September 2014)

Examples - both these users have not logged in since I installed JomSocial and I have not edited their profile accounts. They both have a name entry that is their real name plus a username:

user SIMON has url as ../profile/221-simon-huss and last logged in 15 September
user FOODBYJO has url as ../profile/139-foodbyjo and last logged in 22 March

So still the two questions !

Hi Andrew,

this is a bug. but here the temporary fixes:
1. you can edit manually at table t3wab_community_users, "alias" field
2. goto jomsocial backend, configuration > layout. changing the display name to username. so if any new users, the URL alias will using username.
3. edit /components/com_community/libraries/user.php line 74 (get alias function)
from

if (empty($this->_alias)) {
to
if (!empty($this->_alias)) {
this thing will make URL alias (for profile) respected display configuration.

Regards,
Albert
