I understand that if I set "Respect privacy" on the email search part of the back end (Advanced search) then on the front end the user gets a check box saying "Privacy Email" however it is not clear to me what that means
i.e. if it is ticked does that mean the users email address will show up or won't show up in a search by a guest?
Hi Andrew,
I am not sure that setting is still be used or not, i need ask this to our developer first, maybe in monday I will get the answer.
thank you
Ok thanks, will wait and see what is said.
Hi Andrew,
Ah you right, that setting for hide / show the adv. search by guest, if you set the respect privacy the guest cant find you.
thank you
Thanks I think I get it now but therfore shouldn't this setting appear on "Privacy setting" rather than "Emails and Notifications" on the front end as it makes no sense otherwise?
Hi Andrew,
The "Emails and Notifications" is different thing that only handled the notification to your email or to jomsocial notification.
thank you
Yes, that's what I'm saying. At the moment the check box where I select something to do with my privacy, i.e. if someone can find my email address with advanced search, is not showing under the Privacy settings but instead under the place where I set my email and system notifications.
I have attached a screen showing how, to me, it should be arranged (on my system I have used language overide also to change the text "Privacy Email" to something that makes more sense, based on your explanation of this setting)
So, to me, this is a bug, the "Privacy Email" check box is showing on the wrong tab. Hope that makes sense?
Ok so more on this - I have found that if I enable the back end to allow guest users to do advanced search, and then also set "Respect Privacy" on the back end, when using the front end Advanced search as a guest I can find the user with a specific email address no matter if they have "Privacy Email" selected or not selected on their profile.
Hi Andrew,
I see, i think this is bug, I will add this issue to our bug list.
Thank you for your nice found :)
Thanks - hope you can fix this very soon as user privacy is very important.
Hi Andrew,
will let you know once the issue done by the developer.
thank you
Please let me know if I need to mark this topic as "not fixed" or as "fixed" - slightly confused which one to pick as this obviously is not fixed for me until the bug is sorted but I guess you may clasify the topic as closed now you have it on your bug list? Perhaps a new Ticket status needs to be "Awaiting bug fix" ? Thanks
The status is confirmed bug, dont be afraid I will back it to you once the dev fix this.
