There are few aspects of the jomsocial that I am unaware of what they are and how they work and there benefits. For clarification, the multi-profile is for a member that would like to have a second profile page for ex. Musician? would both be available to public. or is this an either or?

No :) Multiprofile feature allows you, and your users to chose profiles that fits them. Those profiles can have different watermarks and fields.
For instance: you run a community for musicians. So you can create different profile for drummer, singer, guitar player, bass player. In each profile you'll have different - unique fields that are corresponding to profile e.g you'll have preferred hand for guitar player and voice scale for singer.

You can allow user to switch their profiles or lock them

You can set some profile types to be moderated by you as administrator (you need to enable users that choose certain profile).
