Just upgraded to the last 'rock solid' version but a problem I've had since tagging became available still exits.
What happens is than when I try to tag someone in the status for example, Art, sometimes the user will come up, but most times, not only does the users not come up but many others with names that don't even start with an a will show in the list.
I am guessing based on a previous problem that I had that this is being caused by old data from long ago versions still stuck in my DB.
Perhaps there is a way of cleaning the DB up once and for all?
Thanks.
Hi Mike,
could you please provide me cpanel access detail. if not you can install Akeeba Backup. I will make local copy of your site.
so I can inspect the DB without damaging your site.
and can you give the the example about what user not appear at tagging box.

Hi,
I did provide an example. I am not sure how else to do that? Simply log in using the credentials I have given you and test using the input I gave you. You will clearly see that if you enter @a for example, you will see names which don't even start with an a showing up.
I have no cpanel, only normal server access. If you want a copy of the DB, I can send you a dump.
Hi Mike,
because js_support user still not have any friends yet. I can not tagging any one. If you can install Akeeba backup it would be great. I can download and make your site copy at my local for debugging purpose. your site is a live site. I can not do deep debugging, because it will damaging your site in temporary hours.

Albert
Hi Mike,
yes, tagging only for friends. the logic is like this:
if user type @ and follow with Alphabet, system will do some query only on friends list. if not only on friends list the query will too heavy. because that, tagging only can for friends only.

Albert
No?!!!!
That is just too silly!!! The idea behind tagging should be to stimulate usage by being able to involve users, especially people who aren't on the site or whom you are trying to invite into a conversation. You should make this an option as it would be much better as a global function and not just friends. That is just plain useless if it's for friends only.
also, why was I able to tag someone that is not my friend when I replied to one of their status messages?
Hi Mike,
I correction my prev post:
according to this documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Tagging_People
by defautly tagging only for friends, but if some one outside friends commented in the same activity that person can be tagged too.
private groups we can only tag group members.

Albert
You really should have an option to allow admins to let any registered user tag any other registered user. That would be a good way to get a new person involved because most times, newbies just watch, not knowing what to do.
Hi Mike,
Our team decided the tagging rules like that for now. But you can put user voice at:

Sure you have, I said I hoped this could be an option for admins because as it is now, it is not very useful and a waste of such a good feature. I posted it in your wish list section and have not heard anything about it.
You can close this.
