I would like to create a new menu item for a "featured" user. I tried using the user's URL but the problem is that I do not have joomla module control over the rest of the elements on that page because joomla sees it as a "external URL"

I see no menu item for "single user" in the community options for menu items.

Is there another way of doing this?

The only solution is you need to use external URL, and put the single user link manually from external URL link.
