Name field on first page of Registration

I would like to change the label for Name field on first page of registration to First Name / Last name so as to have uniformity of input from the members as some some members of global community write name in different ways which is going to be confusing when All members are displayed or when displayed on search result. Also when alphabetical list is clicked display will be confusing.
I realize first page is joomla core and I looked in joomla forum, jomsocial documentation and support forum but can not find and easy answer but complicated code alteration which according to discussion did not work.
As an alternative can we suppress or hide this field and use profile configuration in jomsocial to create new fields for First name and Last name so aphabetical display shows display of last name in alphabetical order instead of showing first name in alphabetical order.
Thanks for your help

Hi Muddaiah

There is a really good article that explains how you can split the name field up on registration, please read this article

Dear Paul

Thanks for the link to an article about splitting the name field to First name and Last name . I followed the instruction in the article and it worked in jomsocial custom field configuration showing new fields in the group- Basic information. When I checked as a visitor to site , home page loads ok, but when I click Member button on home page Menu I get the following error message

Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object in /home/seeadoct/public_html/components/com_community/templates/default/activities.index.php on line 51
This has happened only since I split the name field.
Thanks for uour help.

Dear Paul
Further to my reply to your link to an article as I was supposed to have shown the progress of the website to a group of members this morning I tried to un publish the new split name fields, still got the error message, so I deleted the new split fields but still getting the same error message. I will have to apologize to the group as site is not working. I hope you can help me to fix it or get it back at least to original un split name field in registration.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Muddaiah,
It seems you have upgrade the joomla with new version 3.3
Can you confirm me that the problem is happening after that?
If it is the case then I would suggest you to have a whole site backup and
then reinstall jomsocial latest version.
Let me know if then still the problem persist.
Thanks

Hi Asraf
Thanks for your suggestion.
Joomal was updated on March 28, 2014, 12:59 pm as below as it is on Auto update, but site was working ok until I tried to split the Name to two fields on Saturday 3 May. I reinstalled Jomsocial this morning and I am still getting the error message on clicking member button on home page.

Hi Dimas
Thanks for your reply. I checked the site with a dummy registration and it is working fine now, Thanks for that. In your previous reply you said " in you stream I see "Profile avatar deleted" i think this issue caused by it" I remember deleting a dummy member profile not just avathar. I had to create dummy member to test the registration process and deleted one as I did not want to accumulate too many dummy members. By deleting member profile is this problem going to occur again ?

Registration is working ok but I noticed when I click on all members, display of of names is in order of -first name last name - which is ok but when clicked on Alphabetical ,display shows alphabetical order for First Name, I thought general convention is the alphabetical list for Last name, same when I click on alphabets menu like abc def ghi. Unless a member you are searching for is a friend and you know their first name, members tend to search for last name and it will be quicker to find in a long list if the alphabetical list is set for last name.
I am sorry for this long winded sentence. Appreciate any suggestion ?

Once again thanks for fixing the problem.
