When a user accept a friend notification, a popup widow appears and when clicking on Accept button, it doesn't close the window. So users think it doesn't work but in fact it has been accepted.

So far when the button will be pressed then there is a reply message as "You are now friend with XXX".
After seeing confirmation message you can close the window.
See the screenshot...
But If you want to close the window after clicking the accept button then you need to customize the button and you need to have some javascript experience.

So I've used a fake user "Oliver" to send an invitation to LémaNéo. You can check now.

You can test login both usernames "LémaNéo" and "Oliver" connecting with same admin password.

It seems third party issue.
I have registered a new account and send friend request and noticed the problem for your site.
As I am experiencing there are several third party extension is installed.
I would like you to check by disabling other extension/plugins and check back.
One another step can help to find out the problem,
As the site is live. I would suggest you to clone the site with different location (under a subdomain or sub folder) with different database.
We then uninstall other extensions/plugins and check back and forth.
