I set the site on members only, the link on the front page was showing then stopped showing.
Now I get the following and can't figure out how to remove it.

You do not have permission to view this resource. Please contact the Site Administrator.

Everything is correct. Your frontpage is set to show JomSocial Notifications, but those informations are only accessible to logged in users, because of that a message "You do not have permission to view this resource. Please contact the Site Administrator." is shown. Please select a different type of the link. Preferably a type called "Home" from JS options should be selected. It will suit Your site best.
