Upgraded to Joomla 3.7.1 and members area no longer available

I have just upgraded to the latest version of Joomla but, when I try to login to the members area, all I get is an error message "Login Failed". I can still log in to the admin site but not the members area where I use Jomsocial. Any ideas?

Hello
How can I confidentially post the access details for my admin site and ftp?

I have established that the problem is connected to the version of PHP. If I downgrade PHP to 5.6.30 then the members area is available with the latest version of Joomla. If I then upgrade PHP again to v. 7.1.5 the members area becomes inaccessible again.

Just edit your first post in this thread.
Under main text field you'll find a switch - click on it and a credentials field will show up.
That's the only way you can confidentially provide them to us.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
