How come you advertize one single location field yet on your demo you have four fields needed to plug in information about location. As well you don' have the nearby events mmodule working. Where can I see a working module

Can the main event page auto detect location on page load?

For that you can use different module, you can use JS event module, and configure to show the featured event only as your main event to show.
