I'm thinking of buying jomsocial for a social forum site development, however I have a few queries regarding the customization flexibility in jomsocial.
1. Is Jomsocial fully editable/customizable in the CSS and structure?
2. Can I add additional functionalities to the existing features?
3. Does upgrading/updating jomsocial in the future revert all the changes I did to the core files (will the changes be nullified and new updated files can only be used)?
4. In our custom templates can we overwrite jomsocial core files in joomla?
1. Yes it is, but for any customazation is beyond our support, well we can support it as long as it quite simple :)
2. yes you can, you should do it by yourself :)
3. Yes it does, so you need be carefully when you wanna modify the code, and if you wanna modify the template, you can use override method, so your modification will be safe
4. the code system cant be changed :)

CSS customization must do it from joomla site template it self. because that custom CSS from template must be loaded after all CSS.

it cant. you must make new extension for that (module/plugin)

of course all changes at core files will be reverted to original

you only can overwrite jomsocial template files at /components/com_community/templates/jomsocial to /templates/[site template]/html/com_community/layouts/
and this overwrite will not touching by jomscoial upgrade
