I'm teacher in a high school and we would like to open a private social network for our students. I'm not a specialist so maybe my questions will seem "stupid".
1) Do I have to host my jomsocial's social network or you do it?
2) Is it possible that nobody can't see any of the contents published excepted the users registered. For us it is essential that only our students can see the contents because most of them are under 18 yo.
3) I'm not sure that I understood exactly what is the pricing. If we don't pay every 6 months we won't be able to do the updates?
We would need the socialize template but I don't think we can pay 600 dollars a year...
5) We would like our students to publish articles on public blogs. They would work inside the privates groups but they would publish their articles on public blogs. Is it possible to have "public blogs" inside a private jomsocial's group?

1. You need to have own host, domain and database to run Joomla! with JomSocial. You may check what hosting providers offer in your country.
2. Yes, you may lock your content for registered users only. There are some places that display e.g avatar and user name. But on forum you'll find workarounds for those.
3. No, you don't have to renew if you don't want to. You will be allowed to use JomSocial... but yes, you'll lost access to Support Forum and upgrades/patches. But you may renew at any moment. E.g:
- you've purchased JomSocial
- installed and run your community.
- reposted few issues on forum and posted few questions
- then everything was fine and 6 months passed (your subscription expired)
- next few months passed and you found another issue
- you want it solved so you renewed your subscription
And as I said - you do renew only if you need a fix (upgrade) or support .
4. This extension doesn't belong to us - you need to contact with respective developers if you have question regarding their product. But JomSocial does have built-in discussions feature (in Groups)... or you may use Kunena Forum for free...
5. No, as there is no such a feature in JS. JomSocial is a Community builder extension and have no relation with articles or blogs. You probably mean articles in Joomla! Then yes, you may set privacy settings to what you need.
