JomSocial pre-sales questions - disabling features, etc

Hi there,

We are researching requirements for a website for a client, where they need member profiles, kind of like a directory for people.

JomSocial look great, but I have a few questions to see if this is the right system for our needs.

  • Most of the social networking features will not be required for this website. Would it be possible to disable most of these features, with the possibility to re-enable them if the client later changes their mind or wants to expand features?
To start out, we only need the ability for members to create a profile, and for profiles to be searchable.
  • They will need a "featured profile" module which shows a profile photo and certain fields, with the ability to click to see more (non logged in visitors will go to a signup page). Does a module like this exist? Or if not, could it be commissioned to be developed?
  • I can see JomSocial does not support Joomla ACL. Is there the ability to show different things to different user groups?

Thank you, looking forward to your reply.

Hi, Simon.

Thank you for interesting in JomSocial.

1. Yes, most features may be disabled. But some will require code hacking e.g add friends or PMs. Many depends what you want to disable - features like photos, videos, groups or events may be disabled with one click).

2. There is no module to show ONE profile... but few featured profiles at once. You'll need to develop such a modul on your own.

3. Not out-of-the-box but you may implement this by installing: www.readybytes.net/jomsocial-profile-type.html

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
