I need solid conviction on chooosing jomsocial or buddypress before I proceed to start a serious networking website
We only can suggest you to use Peepso or Jomscial instead :)
Right now only Jomsocial which has lots features, Peepso is very good as well, but peepso just born, the features are limited... yet there not like Jomsocial.
So if you want I suggest you use Jomsocial, with Jomsocial you can integrate with another 3rd party Joomla component, so you can achive what you needs.
JomSocial is an EXTENSION for Joomla! that means it's only a brick in a huge building that may site based on Joomla! to be.
It's also a community builder extension.
Features you ask are not strictly community related.
So JomSocial doesn't have multisite or classifieds.
Multisite feature is rather related with Joomla! than JomSocial as all user creation and logins are handled by it. JomSocial just follows Joomla! here.
The same goes for classifieds - this is not strict community issue but totaly different field of expertise.
Joomla! has a great flexibility and you may combine a lot of different extensions - Joomla! user account is shared between them so one login handles access to all extensions.
So you should rather focus on looking for additional extensions for Joomla! that will fit your needs like:
Other question is if they could be directly integrated with JomSocial - e.g to show data from one extension on JS stream or in user profile.
In some cases integration is available - for some not. But even then it could be made by skilled developers (or on your own if you're skilled enough). Please, note that we don't develop integrations or features on demand.
