I do not see ability in Jomsocial demo to create recurring events, specifically "every other week" or "every other Thursday". Which plugin can do this? It's a very basic need for any group ware.

And it seems there is no membership plugin to protect content or monetize the site. Which is recommended?

Please tell me the difference between Jomsocial at $250 and just getting a free Joomla platform and adding social plugins??? Is it like a package deal? If so, what are the benefits?

#1 You right, we only have recurring events based on date

#2 You can use 3rd party extenstions like payplans and JSPT
