I have my own domain name, can I have only my branding and domain name linked to the social network I create?
Also is it possible to have the following
--categories of things, skills etc for sale which members can search?
--location based searches?
I basically require a social network and shop in one, is this possible?

Yes, you may have your community under your domain. jomSocial is a Joomla! extension. And Joomla! is a CMS website. So your website will be under your domain - it's up to you how you configure your domain and Joomla!
In community you could search only users based on location. Or events. but other object just have location as information and they can't be searched (e.g videos or photo albums).
If you want to have a shop - you may. But it will be in Joomla! not in JomSocial. In other words you'll have two connected extensions working hand in hand in the same framework. Many users are using Hikashop along with JomSocial
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
