I want to configure Jomsocial so that a user inputs a city when they register and then when they search under groups, they can only see groups created by people who inputted the same city at registration. I also want events to only show up if they were created by people who inputted the same city as you.
I pretty much want to build Jomsocial as a way for only people of the same city to communicate. Users will not see any other users or their content unless all the users involved are from the same city.
How is this possible to configure?
This would help me out tremendously

Yes, it's possible but will require a lot of work and core files to hack in some points.

- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Unfortunately, i do not have the funds to hire a developer right now. $150 for jomsocial already sent me back. Are there any pointers you can give me as to where to start with this project, or how to proceed in making it happen. Any online posts describing how to accomplish this?
Im pretty handy with joomla and i understand php so editing core files should not be an issue for me.
