I'm disappointed to be asking this question as a pre-purchaser when I have been a long and loyal customer of jomsocial from Azrul days. Removing forum access to existing customers, even if lapsed, is deeply disappointing. We are after all, still users and ambassadors for your software.
OK, I want to know, before I even consider renewing my licence, is can I limit the display of the community stuff on the home page to members only. I've tried fiddling with the back end settings but I have failed to stop items such as groups, events, videos, photos and friends from displaying if the viewer isn't registered. This creates a very ugly look, see here
www.villamarketingsolutions.com/private-member-area
- with a big lump of irrelevant stuff for new members down the RHS of the page.
All I want non members to see is the big login / register box - nothing else. Can I do this?
The reason of closing forum for users without active subscription is that forum contains updates. Sometimes they are "real" updates like patches for certain bugs sometimes they are updates that we should rather call "hacks". It's really common that access to updates or technical support is paid. Users expect high quality of support service and - most of all - high quality of product. And no one will work for free. Let's take Agora forum extension for example. For long time they offered Agora for free... but few years ago they decided to go for commercial license - because to keep high quality product.
We really love to help our customers - no matter if they hold active or un-active subscription. In most cases if question is asked in Community, we answer... even if we said many times that we don't support in Community.
Answer to your question is - yes. It's quite easy to do it. You need to create override for frontpage.index and hide all boxes using php condition that will display boxes IF current user is logged in... that is user id is greater than 0.
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.
